The process of industrialisation has historically been recognised as the engine of economic development. Is this still the case? This panel will discuss the relationship between industrialisation and economic development from both a comparative and historical perspective, and offer some thoughts on the role of the state in economic development.
Key questions to be explored: Is economic development in the 21st century more easily achieved through growth of the services sector rather than the manufacturing sector? Is robotics, 3-D printing and artificial intelligence threatening job creation? What are the implications for industrial policy?
Speakers: Erik Reinert and Jostein Hauge
